Do you have dogs, cats or other furry friends? You want to be sure and think of them when you’re looking to purchase a house. Not all homes and neighborhoods are pet-friendly. Here, Realtor.com shares four questions you need to ask to find a place that works for you and your pets.
What are local pet laws?
There’s no guarantee that your pets will be welcome in your new neighborhood. Make sure to check city and state laws for possible breed restrictions or limits on the number of animals allowed in a home.
Does the house have pet-friendly floors?
Carpet likely will be destroyed by claws and dirt. Instead, opt for distressed hardwood flooring. Your pet and your wallet will thank you.
Can your pet handle the stairs?
If your pet’s growing older, consider if they’ll be alright navigating stairs in a multilevel home. To help your pups travel up and down with ease, try to find a place with a carpet runner on the stairs.
Is the neighborhood safe for pets to roam?
Your four-legged friend needs plenty of room to walk and play. When you’re shopping for houses, peek around the neighborhood to see if there are any nearby parks and walking trails.
